my name is dr. Malik in the van and I am the program specialist here at the Santa Clarita Valley so I think you can go on Drafting and measurable icicle for our agenda we will cover three basic areas of the first being basic components of an IED and it's important Essentials of writing effective ID and lastly developing I-80 gold from Baseline data now let's look at basic components of an IP one of the things that we know about is that IDE a individual Education Act clearly state that I used to be written to prepare students in three areas those areas keep your education employment and independent living at the actual reason why we have these individual education plan because of specialized instruction in one of three areas for sticky rice location employment or independently another component or individual education plan is our present level of academic achievement and functional this is really the foundation of our goal and all components of the it on the reason I say that is because when you're looking at those present levels of performance discussion about what do we do now at this moment and this is very important because how can we write any gold right or create any other portions of the it we don't have a clear depiction of where things are now today the other thing about the present level is that they need to be current and back by data the one we're talking about now to make sure that information being related to the team is current and there is some type of data or information observations that's backing the information up again to make sure that it's accurate I bet it really creates goals in those areas of education employment Independent Living that are going to have a meaningful impact the other thing that I'll point out about the plot I really can't stress enough is that when we are creating that popped and putting that information we need to make sure that it's relevant to the students gold I have often review ice where teacher made mention or tape really be clear up if you're placing a certain area of concern or need in the present levels of a student then we need to make sure that there is a to follow up is the port in that area of need that we're going to cover here is the Continuum of placement and services and so we always at professionals want to be thinking about it and how to capitalize on those right when I think about different combinations or assistive technology or resources and so as a result of that we want to really allow ourselves to keep the Continuum of places in our our vision right because we want to make sure we're not limiting their ability to have options but I'll be able to work on skills and develop skills across different environment so it's important to keep all of those things in mind as we're looking at basic components of the education plan The Message is I'm not the kind of well I'm going to go over that briefly as I possibly can this is just an overview that I think is really important for us to keep present level academic achievement and functional performance so the first again is remembering to ask ourselves are we looking at all the areas that we possibly can to gather data how to conversate what are general education teachers are made sure that we have created an opportunity for them to be a part of that conversation and share information for present levels are we making sure that we are reaching out the related service providers are we at with that we have and being able to not just take the scores of those assessments and place it on the final level of performance but really breaking down two areas of need and being clear about what field would benefit our students to be able to improve on and have goals written for are we again doing the same with our Statewide testing port or looking at current levels of proficiency I'm on a district or classroom Benchmark all of the Avenue can be used to gather data really create a clear picture of who our students are and what they're capable of doing now also want to make sure that we were looking at those present levels we are taking you to the Federation the educational benefits you know as we're creating these present levels are we making sure that works with early identifying our students strength as well as their preferences and interest right are we reaching out to parents or family that making sure that their concerns have been are all of the sections of the present level of being addressed including documentation or areas that are not a concern at this time an example would be when you're looking at the present level there may be something in the area of social emotional well-being vocational skills and perhaps those are two domains that you're not working currently the area of concern are you making sure that that is being documented within that present level of performance for example here no concern is that clearly stated I also want to make sure that if there test being used on areas of concern that arrived that those specific concerns are being identified so that goals can be creative photos of things just to ask yourself again considering educational benefit of our students motivation back to get an understanding of who they are identify students again have the academic behavioral social emotional functional and Vocational then identified if and when appropriate or is it clearly stated with those and does the present level Drive the development of the iscope if we're talking about a student's needs or area of concern listed on that present level and we really want to make sure that we write just really want to we need to attract them so now we're looking at effective IP gold right and when is it defective IEP goals always have the first is effective IP gold always have to have everyone move test and I'm sure you've heard it in different types of basic pics too if your students move to another District tomorrow or let's say you was a teacher case manager you know professional related service person whatever your role is you have written ago and you tomorrow with a person parroting that I T be able to clearly understand how to measure measure the progress is that clearly stated that you were talking about when we look at that what if everyone moved someone wants to relocate our students or ourselves and they were to inherit this it that we've written is it going to be clear for them to understand okay and presently how to say that again as are always Based on data ongoing data collection and present levels of performance cuz remember our present level always looking at the date we are not present levels things that have happened years ago and just regurgitating information we are making an effort to consciously do we have a clear fish what they can do today right now the lasting effects of it gold always are measurable and meaningful to talk a little bit more about that but measurable and sense of what we're right on how we are going to track progress and meaningful it is relevant to those three areas I mentioned before either education employment because again oh here we're going to kind of again so I know you don't know me but I was actually a special education teacher for students with significant disabilities for years and work the whole gamut and there are just a lot of things I've learned along the way and this was a really wonderful with lawyers at one time during the process of understanding of what they were like in terms of its being Twisted we clear right so we learned about this in school and programs but it just really stood out to me in terms of how important it is for this to be explicitly clear during formula what year was the first. You want to look at number one we always want to be very clear about when the ivy bowl is going to be for example here will States September 2nd 2020 I'm making up here but we're doing our annual so we want to know the Pacific right in making this up saying that we have a student that they are having a keeping track of your iMessage as well as turning in where the skill data will be taken and in this case it's going to be within the classroom setting now what I will say is that when you are looking at writing about you know like this you still Mastery to be generalized not confined to one person and environment so you know without going on I told you having no skill to generalize across different environment so important especially because that was the only way that I can actually have confidence that my suit in the classroom setting I cut that General because I d r e this is probably you know maybe maybe they'd been half of their day in the general and environment right maybe know a couple of here is the the wording is in a classroom setting so it allowed for us to have that generalization of a skill settings because regardless if they are in a general education is there some type of hybrid of the day white this is where we want to see the use of the planter and identify the next number going to look at as measured by this is how progress is measured right so here I have written that it will be measured by teacher observation record we also know that gold can be measured in a variety of way to be through a teacher he could be through discrete trial observation what I would suggest because it is kind of a general overview coming from the Delta is that you actually in communication with your program specialist to find out if there's any specific capillary in the area next number five want to look at the criteria of accuracy right and typically when you look at the criteria accuracy there's going to be a child's you know something of that nature accuracy that I think is also important to keep in mind you want to be mindful that you require 100% or 5 out of 5 trials and I just say that because I would have to you know multiple disabilities for example blind as well as half the physical limitation or cognitive and what I was writing goals of sporcle living in an independent living I had to really be aware of across the street that's a no point do I want to say deeply with 4 out of 5 trials with anything less than clearly something need to be accounted for every single time you know kind of not random depending on which a population is and how you're creating that may seem like something that's ever happened but I'm sure there's other areas where it could do you want to offer this again looking at accuracy of looking at why you create the the accuracy of the percentage what you did the last thing I'll have here's our sticks area which is the prompts we want to look at the prom created is going to complete this goal with no more than three students next year September 2022 for the student planner organized according to the class.
