Healing Trauma in Students to Improve Educational Outcomes
Educators today are teaching not only reading, writing and arithmetic, but also emotion regulation. Children’s behaviors (including tantrums and meltdowns, attention seeking, work refusal, verbal and physical aggression) make educating them difficult in many settings. These behaviors can often be related to an experience of trauma (abuse, neglect, medical, natural disasters and witnessing violence). How does the experience of trauma change a child’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors? How can we help them to heal so that they can trust us to educate them? How do we manage the behaviors so that we can educate children? What are the most effective sensory, movement and cognitive behavioral approaches to emotionally regulating children? Join Dr. Christina Reese as she presents Healing Trauma in Students to Improve Educational Outcomes.
