Successfully Navigating the Tightrope of ED Eligibility: Following the Evidence and Adhering to the Law
This workshop will provide attendees with information on how to complete evidence-based assessments for Emotional Disturbance post COVID Pandemic.  Participants will be guided through how to differentiate between temporal mental health challenges which developed or were exacerbated by the pandemic versus more pervasive conditions which require IEP teams to consider eligibility under the category of Emotional Disturbance.

Presented by: Dr. Charity Plaxton-Hennings
Dr. Charity Plaxton-Hennings currently serves as the Senior Director of Special Education for Desert Sands Unified School District. She has previously held roles as Director of Mental Health and Psychological Services, Director of Inclusion and Program Development, SELPA Coordinator and School Psychologist. She has served as an editor for several academic journals and currently serves in this role for the Journal of Contemporary School Psychology. Dr. Hennings has previously worked in higher education as an Associate Professor at Azusa Pacific University and has served as an adjunct professor for several colleges and universities. Historically, she has had private practice specializing in neuropsychology, training and consultation. She holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychological (Loma Linda University), a Master's degree in Public Health (Loma Linda University), a Master's degree in Psychology (Loma Linda University), and a Bachelor's degree in Speech Communication and Psychology (Point Loma Nazarene University). She also completed a Postdoctoral Fellow in Pediatric Neuropsychology.
