This information-packed seminar will help attendees gain dozens of practical, Monday-morning materials and strategies for serving ELs with language impairment. The presenter will discuss ways to facilitate continued first language development to support acquisition of English skills, especially academic English. Participants will learn how to utilize culturally responsive materials and strategies that affirm and support diversity. Participants will receive ideas for collaborating with other professionals to support ELs with language impairment across school settings. There will be a special emphasis on academic vocabulary acquisition, with multiple strategies for helping ELs with language impairment (LI) increase their access to the curriculum of the classroom. Strategies will be shared for improving EL students’ expository reading skills to improve their academic performance. Fun, engaging ideas will be presented for incorporating fine motor and sensory materials and methods into language therapy. Practical tips will be shared for implementing trauma-informed intervention and working with families from diverse backgrounds.
